This is an easy, fun practice that has helped many of my clients ditch self-defeating, negative self-talk. Simply write out positive affirmative statements on colorful Post-it notes and stick them EVERYWHERE —the bathroom mirror, the refrigerator, the car steering wheel, the computer, the TV remote…
Affirmations are simple, positive statement about yourself written in the present tense. They work by helping you replace the negative stories and beliefs you tell yourself with beautiful truths about who you really are.
Here are some sample affirmations to get you started:
- I love, forgive and accept myself exactly as I am.
- I am beautiful, brilliant and a gift to the world.
- My life is full of abundance. Wealth flows my way and money comes to me effortlessly.
- I embrace and love my entire self—both the light and dark. In doing so I create balance and happiness.
Here’s an example from one of my clients, Nancy who placed positive affirmation Post-it notes all over her bedroom.

My pleasure. Glad you liked int Juliana.
What a fun uplifting exercise. Today, I decided to decorate my dresser mirror.. I even placed one on the dashboard of my car. They do work by helping breaking the cycle of negative beliefs and living in the present by creating the “I AM”. I look forward to each day being greeted with positive affirmations written in my handwriting.
May I add one valuable piece of feedback? I think it’s important to write each and every post it – in your own hand writing! It allows us to re-affirm our truths.
Thanks Dr. Ellen for the great idea and allowing creativity to flow so freely!
Great idea and I totally agree with you. Thank you for sharing, Megan.
